First On-Screen Crush?

many years ago, we lived in a world where the one tv in your house might be black and white, perhaps color if you were lucky, but either way the screen was small and the arial on your house would struggle to deliver a decent signal but often fail in a fuzzy mess.

most of the movies you saw were old, there was no home video or rental - you got a chance to see something and then it was gone.

planning your viewing was important to make sure you didn't miss something so you'd carefully scan the tv guide to pick out your favourites ... good job there were only 2 or 3 channels to look through.. but you could still see quality if you went to the movie theatre and there you got to see glorious film on a giant screen (which is only now being equalled quality wise).

I was just at my sisters and she was watching NCIS. I haven't seen it for more than 15 or so years (has it been on that long?) All of the actors were suddenly old. Like time jumped ahead for me without the inbetween.

I remember movies seen as a child, that scared me or were so adventurous and wonderous - now seen thru adult eyes - haha they were very lame.

But movie actors/actresses on screen are like are memories of friends and family that may be gone. They stay forever at that in between. They may get younger or stay the same age - but they never get older than our last memory of them.

I find it fascinating that are minds are capable of that.

Why does he stay in?

i was seeing a jw man for about a year and a half until l broke it off with him last week.

we met on a dating site.

he shouldn’t have been on there, of course, but he was lonely.

Yes he still lives in a world constructed by the JW religion. Everything is filtered thru the JW mindset and it always comes up that the religion is right - even if he suffers from living a half life. Until something breaks the spell and he truly sees the lies and damaging teachings, he will be drawn like a moth to the "light" until he's dead.

Good thing you could see that and break it off.

just looking at the pictures in tomorrow's wt study makes me think of the nightmares i used to have as a child.

and nowadays the pictures are sometimes more realistic, so for any who are truly mentally in, this has a terrible effect on them and even their life choices.

looking in as a pimo or pomo it seems almost comical that adults would believe in this sci-fi bible fan-fiction, but it's not funny when we remember that all ages of the r&f are being manipulated by the gb by these cheap and evil means.. .

The line I like the best from the video is "We will be the only ones openly serving God" Yeah like Geoffrey J. at the Arc. He did all sorts of shilly shalling around. Never did he take the opportunity to "declare God's kingdom is the only hope of Mankind"

Sure you can go. Dress up. Slacks shirt and tie.

They might look wary if they see you are a "worldly" person and will try to discern if you are an "apostate".

On the other hand, they might be friendly because they hope you will join. I'm not sure what the response will be if you say you're an atheist and doing research.

Sunday is the WT study and public talk where most "worldly" people would be expected to show up to. Middle of the week studies are more for the congregation.

But hey, have an interesting time, just don't believe everything that is on the surface of this religion. Other information about this religion can be found on JW.facts.

They won't make you give a donation - they don't pass plates but they will hint that you should.

They might have had a part on the meeting about encouraging those you don't see at the meetings. She doesn't want to imply you are "bad" and maybe she's had stresses too so she took the "she must be having troubles" route. Or she's doing for the brownie points. I wouldn't stress over it. Only if she shows up at your door with an elder to "help" you would I be annoyed.

If I were still a child and I saw those pictures - what would get me the most is the soldiers in the first picture. I would imagine them screaming in terror as they had no where to escape to. I would imagine it was me because I've always believed God would kill me too.

The WT is master manipulators of fear that they definitely want to implant into children s minds and any adults who may be on the fence. Those who are smug about being in the right - these pictures would be positive reinforcement that they will get their reward.

I find it difficult in areas to be "myself" Growing up as a Jw, you were taught to look to others for the "right" thing to do. And if I did have a stray thought about what "should" be done, I'd always tell myself "well they must know what to do better than me"

I did experience when I was in my 30's, a real desire to dress differently and tint my hair wild colors and that was because I did leave the truth for a few years (although it didn't leave me) I was too good about conforming tho and didn't really do anything. I realized that you can't make the same mistakes that teenagers do when you're an adult, because the consequences are greater.
